Well, hello there! It's been a while, eh?

I abandoned my blog. It seemed redundant to write about my life when I now live right next door to the people I originally wrote for... but at the prodding of those loved and dear ones, I've decided to resume.

A lot has changed over the past two years. I moved back to Vermont, I fell in love and got engaged, and I started a new career as a hairstylist. There are many stories to tell, but for now I will address my career and where it took me on this past Sunday afternoon.

By some chance, I was given the opportunity to work on a photo shoot for the magazine "Vermont Vows", a wonderful magazine that is all weddings without the horrible cheese factor that seems to plague the majority of these publications. I met the editor/shoot director at their headquarters in Winooski, a huge loft space in a remodeled old factory, and was immediately enchanted. Not only was the space chock full of wonderful antique oddities/necessities-(i.e. bins filled to overflowing with vintage furs and lace, old rusted metal garden trellis frames, you get the picture)- but Krista had been up all night making accessories for the shoot! Her work bench is like a fantasy come to life: laces, ribbons, antique buttons, chains, every sort of odd and end you could ever dream of to make the most wonderful accoutrements. I was in heaven.

We arrived at base camp in Warren, at the home of our photographer, Barrie Fisher. Out came the dresses, out came the shoes, the props, the hairpieces and jewels, and I got to work. Cynthia of Cynthia's Day Spa did the makeup while I set about setting our lovely model's hair. After seeing the dresses and hairpieces, I began to form a vision, and was quite pleased with how everything came out.

We shot in the snow, in a covered bridge, out on a ledge overlooking the river, by a barn, in a field, on the road, in a tree; the model was seemingly tireless and up for anything. The team worked very hard and I was impressed with how everyone came together to make Krista's vision into a reality.

Obviously, every new situation presents it's own challenges and chances for learning. On Sunday, I learned that having a strong team is very important. Bringing everything you think you need and then some ensures that you are prepared for any impromptu inspirations. And having the self-confidence to push through any hesitation and go for your vision is vital. This was my first time doing wedding hair for a photo shoot, and I have to say that I am proud of the work I did. Here are some pictures from behind the scenes, you'll have to wait for the fall/winter edition of Vermont Vows to see the final spread!
